Club Náutico Marina Internacional in Torrevieja will host the 61st Senior World Boat Angling Championship and the 25th Junior World Championship from 24 to 31 October, with fishing from anchored boats.

Organisers expect 92 senior competitors and 40 juniors, representing 16 national teams in the senior category and seven in the junior competition.

Countries represented include Spain, Germany, France, England, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Croatia, Slovenia, Luxembourg, Montenegro, San Marino, Switzerland, Algeria and Senegal.

The Spanish, international sea angling and Valencian fishing federations are organising the championships, with support from the council’s Sports Department and the yacht club hosting the event.

Opening on Sunday and practice on Monday

The programme begins on Saturday 24 October with participants arriving and being received at their hotel; the opening celebrations are scheduled for Sunday 25 October.

A meeting of captains and delegates will take place at Marina Internacional at 10:00 on Sunday, while the opening ceremony is scheduled for 16:00 that afternoon.

The official practice session will run on Monday 26 October from 09:00 to 15:00, with its results scheduled to be published at 16:30.

Three competition days and a reserve date

The first competition session is scheduled for Tuesday 27 October, the second for Wednesday 28 and the third for Thursday 29, running from 09:00 to 15:00 on all three days.

The timetable places the daily results at 16:30 and sets aside Friday 30 October as a reserve day, before participants’ planned departure on Saturday 31 October.

The closing ceremony appears in Friday’s programme at 19:00, followed by a gala dinner at 20:00 that evening.

The championships will follow the international rules of the International Sea Sport Fishing Federation, FIPS-M, and the scoring system established in its competition regulations.

The approach announced for these championships includes catch and release, as part of a regulated sporting activity incorporating respect for the marine environment.
