Players challenge for an aerial ball near the goal during SC Torrevieja against Ontinyent

SC Torrevieja drew 0–0 with Ontinyent 1931 CF at the Nelson Mandela stadium on Sunday 25 October, in a match in which the home side offered more going forward after the interval but could not find a goal.

The match kicked off at noon in temperatures that were high for the time of year, bringing together two sides in the lower-middle part of the league table.

The point leaves Torrevieja in that section of the standings ahead of their next away fixture against Villarreal C, who currently lead the competition.

Johan and Gabi look for the breakthrough

Both teams adopted a cautious approach during the first half, avoiding excessive risks and reaching the interval with the score still unchanged from kick-off.

Within that evenly balanced opening period, Torrevieja showed slightly more attacking intent, with Johan among their most active players, particularly down the right flank.

Johan and Gabi tried to threaten the visiting goal, but those forward moves did not produce a breakthrough during the opening 45 minutes of the match.

Javi, starting in goal for the hosts, and Ontinyent goalkeeper Dani had relatively quiet first halves before referee Héctor Rodríguez brought the opening period to a close.

Substitutes add to the attacking effort

The second half initially followed a similar pattern, although Torrevieja gradually became more involved on the ball and created the clearest opportunities to break the deadlock.

Diego Piquero turned to his bench to refresh the side, particularly in attack, introducing Ismail, Adrián, Pucho, David Martín and Álex during the second half.

Following those changes, the home team pushed towards the opposition penalty area with greater persistence in the closing stages, without finding the goal that would have separated the sides.

Before kick-off, Sporting Costablanca had also made a gesture towards Pucho following the recent birth of his child, adding a personal note to the occasion at the Nelson Mandela.

The team’s next league engagement takes them to the province of Castellón to face Villarreal C, an away test against the first-placed side following this draw on home ground.
