Guzmán Aniorte and Rafael Mesa have won the second round of the Real Club Náutico Torrevieja’s Liga de Campeones sport fishing competition, held in a pairs format, with a score of 301 points.

The pair also lead the provisional championship standings after finishing first in both rounds held so far, with just one more round remaining before the competition is decided.

Round results and overall standings

Marcos Soler and Luis Ruiz finished second in this round with 221 points, while Antonio Mesa and Lázaro Fernández took third place with a total of 197 points.

The remaining pairs in the round standings were Alex and Manu, who scored 166 points; Germán and Federico, who recorded 163; and Pablo and Eduardo, who finished on 150.

In the overall standings, Aniorte and Mesa have two points from their two wins, followed by Antonio Mesa and Lázaro Fernández on six, and Marcos Soler and Luis Ruiz on seven.

Behind them are Pablo and Eduardo on eight points, Germán and Federico on nine, and Alex and Manu on ten after the opening two rounds of the competition.

Fishing at Junquicos

The event took place in waters near Torrevieja, in the area known as Junquicos, south-east of Punta Prima, above a rocky seabed at a depth of around 30 metres.

The fishing session ran on Sunday from eight in the morning until two in the afternoon, using prawns as bait, with a minimum fish size of 15 centimetres required for this contest.

Catches were scored on board according to species: fish known locally as serranos earned two points, while pargos and pageles earned five, rather than the fish being taken for weighing.

Most of the fish were returned to the sea or donated, according to information from Guzmán Aniorte reported by Pesca Torrevieja.

Final round in December

The third and final round is scheduled for 6 December and will determine the final standings in the Torrevieja club’s pairs fishing league.
