The Sociedad Cultural Casino de Torrevieja hosted an evening of jazz, swing and blues on Friday 30 October with Take Two, the duo formed by Ignacio and Mariano Torregrosa.

The performance, presented under the title ‘All That Jazz’, combined the two live guitars with a selection of wines and a tapas serving for those attending.

The Viñas Arnaiz pairing was organised under the name ‘Jazz & Wine Experience’, adding wine tasting to the musical programme staged in the Torrevieja cultural venue.

A repertoire of standards and different styles

The programme included ‘Smooth One’, by Benny Goodman; ‘Topsy’, by Eddie Durham and Edgar Battle, and ‘Moonglow’, by Will Hudson, Irving Mills and Eddie DeLange.

Also performed were ‘Sunny Side of the Street’, by Jimmy McHugh and Dorothy Fields; ‘Blue Bossa’, by Kenny Dorham, and ‘Take the A Train’, by Billy Strayhorn.

The journey through different styles and periods also featured compositions such as ‘Night and Day’, by Cole Porter; ‘Cantaloupe Island’, by Herbie Hancock, and ‘Birks’ Works’, by Dizzy Gillespie.

The repertoire further included ‘I’m Confessin’ (That I Love You)’, by Doc Daugherty, Ellis Reynolds and Al Neiburg, and ‘All of Me’, by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons.

The selection also included the numbers ‘Blues’ and ‘The Beatles’, both of which featured in the repertoire performed on the two guitars.

Two guitars alongside wine pairing

‘Stompin’ at the Savoy’, by Edgar Sampson, Benny Goodman and Chick Webb; ‘Flying Home’, by Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton and Sid Robin, and ‘Tequila’, by Chuck Rio, were also among the pieces performed.

The tasting offered red and white wines, accompanied by food selected for the pairings, as part of an experience bringing together live music and gastronomy.

Among those attending was Miguel Albentosa, president of the Sociedad Cultural Casino de Torrevieja, who joined the audience in applauding the musicians’ work and the wine-pairing initiative.
