Orihuela is preparing emergency cover and traffic arrangements for visits to its cemeteries for All Saints’ Day, which falls this Sunday, 1 November. The council has tidied the approaches and plans medical assistance and parking measures over the weekend.

The operation is coordinated by the departments responsible for infrastructure, emergencies and civil protection, and public safety, in anticipation of increased visitor numbers over these days.

Assistance in Orihuela and its outlying villages

The preventive operation covers 30 and 31 October and 1 November, with personnel at Orihuela cemetery during this period.

On Sunday, the plan provides for one emergency team stationed at that cemetery and another mobile team travelling between the cemeteries in the outlying villages to respond to any incidents.

The Red Cross will set up an assistance point in the upper part of Orihuela cemetery, where an ambulance will also be based and available to travel to the villages if its intervention is needed.

Vehicles carrying people with reduced mobility will be able to enter from the rear, beside Denoi, and take passengers up to the entrance; drivers must then remove their vehicles to keep the area clear.

Parking and access controls

Local Police will manage traffic and reinforce security around the entrances and parking areas throughout the three days covered by the operation.

Plans include making one lane of Avenida de la Policía Nacional available for parking on the stretch from the N-340 towards Ociopía, and closing access to the upper part of Orihuela cemetery.

Monitoring will also cover the cemeteries in La Aparecida, Desamparados, San Bartolomé, Hurchillo, Molins, La Murada and La Matanza.

The infrastructure department and the agricultural workers’ brigade have carried out exterior cleaning and maintenance at these sites, as well as at Orihuela and Torremendo cemeteries, to improve their surroundings and approaches.

The council recommends planning journeys in advance, respecting temporary signs and following instructions from police officers and the personnel assigned to the operation.
