Pedro Abad García and José Carlos Rodríguez Moreno, coaches at Judo Club Torrevieja, have been awarded sixth dan in judo, the grade represented by a red-and-white belt.
Both are nationally qualified judo and self-defence coaches, and the distinction recognises their technical ability and dedication to teaching the sport.
The club now has two sixth-dan coaches, recognising the training work carried out at the club and the transmission of judo’s values.
A career rooted in Torrevieja judo
Pedro Abad introduced judo to Torrevieja in 1983 and has combined teaching with competition throughout his career.
He remained active in the veterans category until 2018, with a record that includes the Spanish veterans championship title won in Salamanca on 27 May 2017.
That same year, he won the Spanish Veterans Cup held on 25 November in Villaviciosa de Odón, Madrid.
In 2018, he added second place in the Spanish Cup in Arganda del Rey, bronze in Vitoria and fourth place at the European Veterans Championships in Glasgow.
His results that year also included the overall regional kata title in Almoradí and a bronze medal at the Luftfahrt Masters European Cup in Berlin.
The award of sixth dan to Abad and Rodríguez now brings shared recognition to two of Judo Club Torrevieja’s coaches.
