Orihuela’s parents’ and families’ associations, known as AMPAs and AFAs, have called two simultaneous gatherings for Saturday 7 November at noon to demand improvements to the municipality’s educational infrastructure.

The associations are organising the protests alongside the Vega Baja Teachers’ Assembly and the STEPV union, denouncing shortcomings in state schools and calling for solutions.

One gathering in the town and another on the coast

In Orihuela town, the protest will take place in Glorieta Gabriel Miró; in Orihuela Costa, participants are being asked to meet at the roundabout providing access to the Saturday market.

Both gatherings are scheduled for the same time, with the invitation to take part therefore spread across these two locations within the municipality.

The event poster sums up the demand with the slogan «Let’s defend our schools!» and distinguishes between the meeting points in the town and on the coast.

Investment, improvements and maintenance

The organising groups argue that defending state education means more than simply guaranteeing school places: it also requires decent and safe school buildings and facilities.

Their demands therefore include sufficient investment, improvement works and proper maintenance of state schools, taking account of the needs of pupils and education staff.

The call for facilities suited to those needs is part of the same appeal, linking the defence of schools with the conditions in which educational activity takes place.

The invitation to take part is addressed not only to the families of pupils, but also to teachers, pupils themselves and members of the wider public, as the organising groups regard the demand for improvements to the municipality’s school facilities as an issue affecting society as a whole.

Saturday’s event thus proposes a joint mobilisation across the town and the coast, with the demand for solutions to school infrastructure problems at the centre of both gatherings.
