Torrevieja council has invited bids to maintain and repaint road markings in the town centre and residential developments, with an annual budget of €450,000 including VAT.
The contract will initially run for one year and may be extended for a further year, bringing the amount for the two years to €900,000.
The work is intended to preserve existing markings, renew worn ones and add new markings to the road surface to organise traffic and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians.
Pedestrian crossings, parking spaces and new markings
The service will cover municipally owned roads and public spaces, including streets, squares, lanes and car parks, both in the town centre and in residential developments.
The planned tasks include pedestrian crossings, longitudinal and transverse lines, stop lines, hatched areas, arrows, symbols and wording used to regulate traffic, stopping and parking.
The successful contractor will also have to provide new markings when required by municipal projects, changes to traffic arrangements or needs arising during the contract.
It must also deal with problems resulting from accidents, roadworks or other circumstances affecting road safety.
Eight to 24 hours, depending on urgency
The tender specifications set a maximum of eight hours for very urgent work, twelve hours for urgent work and 24 hours for routine work, starting when the relevant electronic notification is received.
Work orders and monitoring will be managed through the municipal platform used by the local police.
Markings must be durable, provide grip and remain visible both by day and at night; where necessary, previous markings will be removed by milling and non-slip materials will be used.
Preference for overnight work
To reduce traffic disruption, work will preferably take place between 22:00 and 07:00, although quieter traffic periods or non-working days may be chosen in line with instructions from municipal technical staff.
Scheduling must avoid the noisiest tasks during the early hours of the morning.
The company will supply staff, machinery, vehicles and materials, and will be responsible for removing waste and having it processed at authorised treatment facilities.
