Club de Tenis Torrevieja has expressed its sadness at the death of Tomás Bascuñana Cases, one of its founding members and a person closely connected with the organisation’s history and development.

The board has offered its condolences to his family, friends and fellow players, remembering both his sporting achievements and his years of dedication and companionship within the club.

A connection dating back to the beginning

Founded in 1973, Club de Tenis Torrevieja has a history spanning more than half a century, during which Bascuñana took part in its life and development from the earliest years.

The organisation highlights his commitment to sport and his active involvement in veteran competitions, an activity he shared with different generations of members and players.

In its farewell, the board described him as one of the people who formed the club’s foundations and publicly thanked him for his many years of involvement with the Torrevieja organisation.

National and regional team achievements

Among the notable episodes in his sporting career was a runner-up finish in the Spanish over-65 veteran team championship, in a final that pitted the Torrevieja side against Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.

During that tie, Bascuñana secured an individual victory over Enric Sanmartí by 6-2, 6-1, a result the club has included in its account of his sporting record.

He also belonged to Club de Tenis Torrevieja’s over-70 veteran team, which contested several consecutive finals of the Valencian Community championship.

His participation extended to competitions in the over-75 age category, in which he also reached regional finals during that stage of his sporting life.

The board’s tribute recognises those achievements, but also the years spent alongside teammates and friends and the contribution of a founding member to the institution’s collective memory.

The club has publicly expressed its gratitude for his dedication and love of tennis, saying his legacy will remain in the memory of the organisation and of those who knew him.
