Antonio Torrado, of Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, and Conrad Konitzer, of Club Nàutic S’Arenal, finished Saturday 31 October leading the Spanish 49er Championship, which holds its final day of racing in Vilagarcía de Arousa this Sunday.

The pair had 15 points at the end of the second day of the Semana Galega de Clases Olímpicas, giving them a three-point advantage over Martín and Jaime Wizner, of Real Club Náutico de Vigo.

Three points separate the leading crews

Torrado and Konitzer had started Saturday level with the Wizner brothers, but the standings at the end of the day left the Vigo crew in second place with 18 points.

Ricard Castellví and Pol Font, representing Club Náutico Cambrils and Club Náutico Arenys de Mar, held provisional third place with 25 points.

The national title remained undecided before the final races on Sunday 1 November, so the lead held by the Torrevieja club’s representative was still provisional.

The event is organised by the Real Federación Gallega de Vela and brings together the Spanish championships for the 49er and mixed 470 classes on the waters of the Ría de Arousa.

Full programme completed in a north-easterly breeze

A north-easterly wind allowed Saturday’s scheduled programme to be completed: five 49er races, in an average wind of around 12 knots, and three mixed 470 races.

The 49ers went out on the water first, followed by the 470 fleet, which raced in a lighter breeze of between six and seven knots.

After the second day, the championship had completed ten races in the 49er class and six in the mixed 470 class.

Mixed 470 title also to be decided on Sunday

In the mixed 470 fleet, Pablo Ruiz and Anna Korecka, of Real Club Náutico de Palma and Real Club Náutico de Calpe, led the overall standings with six points.

Paula Laiseca and Ion Ancisar were second on 15, while Pol Mateu and Ariadna Suárez were third on 17 and also led the youth standings.

The prize-giving ceremony for both championships is scheduled for 17:00 this Sunday at the Centro Galego de Vela.
