Antonio Torrado, of Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, and Conrad Konitzer, of Club Nàutic S’Arenal, became Spanish 49er champions on Sunday 1 November in Vilagarcía de Arousa.

The crew finished on 23 points at the conclusion of the Semana Galega de Clases Olímpicas, organised by the Real Federación Gallega de Vela on the waters of the Ría de Arousa.

Eight race wins and a six-point margin

Konitzer and Torrado won eight of the fifteen races sailed, including the final three races on Sunday, and ended the championship six points clear of their nearest rivals.

Silver went to Martín and Jaime Wizner, of Real Club Náutico de Vigo, who recorded 29 points and four race victories over the three days of competition.

Ricard Castellví and Pol Font, of Club Nàutic Cambrils and Club Nàutic Arenys de Mar, completed the 49er podium in third place with a total of 40 points.

Fifteen races over three days

The championship ran from Friday to Sunday at the Centro Gallego de Vela, with five races a day for the 49ers and a programme that was completed in full.

Sea and wind conditions also allowed all nine scheduled races to be held in the mixed 470 class, which shared the national championship event with the 49er fleet.

A north-easterly wind was a feature of all three days, with the event report recording wind strengths of between ten and fourteen knots across the competition.

Mixed 470 title goes to Ruiz and Korecka

In the mixed 470 class, Pablo Ruiz Ponce and Anna Korecka Zlotnikova, representing Real Club Náutico de Palma and Real Club Náutico de Calpe, won the national title with 12 points.

Paula Laiseca and Ion Ancisar finished second on 20 points, while Pol Mateu and Ariadna Suárez came third on 28 and also took the under-24 title.

The prize-giving ceremony took place at five in the afternoon, bringing to a close the two national championships held in Vilagarcía.
