Valentina Belso, of Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, finished third in both the overall women’s and under-16 women’s standings at the Spanish ILCA 4 Cup, which concluded in Pollença on Sunday 1 November.

The Torrevieja sailor ended the competition on 61 points, having started the final day at the top of the women’s standings.

The same podium in both women’s categories

Marta Ferrando, of Real Club Náutico de Valencia, won the women’s title with 52 points, while Begoña Pérez-Manglano, of Club Náutico de Jávea, finished second on 55.

The three sailors occupied the same positions in the under-16 women’s category, meaning that Belso also secured third place in that classification.

Ferrando had finished Saturday fifth among the women and moved up to first place with a tenth and a seventh in the Gold group’s two final races.

Two races to complete the championship

Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença organised the three-day competition, which brought together 140 sailors representing nine of Spain’s autonomous communities.

The final day featured unstable conditions, with winds of between ten and twenty knots, but two races were completed to bring the Cup to a close with six races and one discard.

The final entry comprised 88 men and 52 women; the Balearic Islands fielded the largest delegation, with a total of 23 sailors.

Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community each had 21 participants at the event held on the waters of Pollença.

Alejandro Pérez wins the men’s classification

Alejandro Pérez, of Real Club Náutico de Vigo, won the men’s category and the combined overall standings with 11 points, one fewer than Unai de Ugarte, of Real Club Náutico de Arrecife.

Ángel Peñalver, of Club Náutico Mar Menor, completed the men’s podium on 17 points and also won the under-16 title in his category.

The prize-giving took place at the host club, attended by representatives of the Balearic Sailing Federation, the town council and Pollença Air Base.
