Four young soloists who won prizes at Entre Cuerdas y Metales launched its promotional concert series on Monday, 2 November, at the Teatro de Invierno in San Javier.
The performance featured the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Leonardo Martínez Cayuelas, and opened the series linked to the competition’s twenty-ninth edition.
The concert was held in collaboration with San Javier council and its conservatoire, coinciding with the twenty-fifth anniversary of this local centre for musical education.
Flute, marimba, piano and singing
All four performers had won first prize in their respective categories at the previous edition of Entre Cuerdas y Metales. In San Javier, they appeared as soloists alongside the orchestra.
The performers were Eva Sandoval Parra on flute, Víctor Miralles Madrona on marimba, Ángel de la Ossa Jiménez on piano and soprano Domínguez Blázquez in the singing category.
Their performances included a range of pieces from the instrumental and vocal repertoire, bringing together the four specialities recognised by the competition within the same concert programme.
Beethoven to open the programme
The first part was devoted to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21, played by the Cartagena Symphony Orchestra. The four young prize-winners then took their turns as soloists.
The work forms part of the programme for the twenty-ninth edition, which in 2027 will be dedicated to the bicentenary of the German composer’s death.
The competition is run by Cartagena council through its youth service, together with the Cartagena Conservatoire of Music. For this opening date in the series, both institutions worked with their hosts in San Javier.
The promotional series includes performances at different venues across the Region of Murcia. Its programme also includes a concert on 3 November at the José Agüera Auditorium of Murcia’s Higher Conservatoire of Music, featuring young performers accompanied by the same orchestra.
