Altea will devote four days in November to preventing vicarious violence and protecting children, as part of its 25N programme. The sessions will take place on 19, 20, 26 and 27 November at the Social Centre.

The training is entitled “Prevention and Intervention in Vicarious Violence: A Multidisciplinary Approach” and is aimed primarily at professionals working with children and victims of gender-based violence.

The programme will bring together specialists in psychology, healthcare, justice and security to identify situations of risk, improve support for victims and coordinate the response of the services involved.

Children’s rights, risk and professional responses

The sessions will address children’s rights, risk assessment, the psychological consequences of this violence, police intervention and the response of the courts.

Participants include lawyer Violeta Assiego, forensic psychologist Teresa Marín Salinas, criminologist Tania Vidal López and Altea paediatrician Mariano Mancheño Segarra.

Judge Lara Esteve Mallent, forensic doctor Purificación Beltrán Aleu and Supreme Court judge Vicente Magro Servet will also take part, alongside representatives of the National Police and Guardia Civil.

Coordinating the services that support victims

Equality councillor Anna Lanuza has stressed the need for the different sectors to share criteria and tools so they can identify potential cases and act in a coordinated way.

Vicarious violence involves using children or other people close to a woman to harm her. Lanuza says it can take the form of threats, manipulation of children and abuse, and can reach situations of extreme severity.

The sessions are particularly intended for staff in education, healthcare and social services, as well as security forces and professionals working in law and psychology.

Anyone interested can consult the full programme and register using the QR code on the training event’s poster. The four training days are grouped within November and will share a single venue, Altea’s Social Centre.
