Orihuela has approved the rules and calls for applications to allocate 16 vacant street-market pitches in La Aparecida, Torremendo and Desamparados through a competitive selection procedure.
The Markets Department, headed by Noelia Grao, has set an application period of fifteen working days starting on 4 November.
Municipal permits will run for fifteen years from the effective date established in the allocation decision, and each will be tied to the trading activity and floor area assigned to the pitch.
Seven vacancies in La Aparecida and five in Torremendo
La Aparecida has seven pitches available: footwear; perfumery, cleaning and household chemical products; lingerie and underwear; everyday clothing; fruit and vegetables; charcuterie, pickles and salted foods; and roast chicken.
The first four pitches each cover 14 square metres, the fruit and vegetable pitch has 24, and the charcuterie and roast chicken pitches each have an area of 16 square metres.
Torremendo offers five vacancies for fruit and vegetables; everyday clothing; footwear; perfumery, cleaning and household chemical products; and lingerie and underwear.
At this market, the everyday clothing and perfumery pitches cover 16 square metres each, while the remaining three pitches each have 12 square metres of trading space.
Four trading activities in Desamparados
Desamparados offers a 16-square-metre bakery, pastry and sweet-baked-goods pitch, plus three 12-square-metre pitches for flowers and plants, footwear, and crafts, gifts and costume jewellery.
Individuals and legal entities, including cooperatives, may apply provided they meet the requirements for operating a street-market business.
Assessment will consider professional experience, training related to retail activity, products that complement the existing offer and unemployment status, among other merits.
The proximity of the products’ origin and measures to reduce waste will also be considered under the assessment system governing the allocation of pitches.
Applicants must identify the pitch or pitches they wish to apply for and supply the documents and statutory declarations required by the published rules.
The procedure will follow Orihuela’s General Ordinance Regulating Non-Sedentary Trading.
