Torrevieja will run a programme against violence towards women from 6 to 26 November, combining family activities, theatre and training for the public and healthcare professionals.

The equality department and its Equality Unit are organising the programme to mark 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Workshop, storytelling and a book presentation

The programme will begin on 6, 7 and 8 November with the 18th Science Week, organised by Ars Creatio with support from the Equality Unit at the Casino and Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre.

On Monday 16 November, from 09:30 to 11:30, the multipurpose building on Avenida de las Habaneras will host «¿Y tú qué ves? Detective del buen trato», a PANGEA and Equality workshop on respectful relationships and recognising controlling behaviour and inequality.

On Wednesday 18 November at 17:00, Carmen Jalón Library will offer «Huesos. Cuentacuentos contra la violencia de género», a storytelling activity for families.

On Friday 20 November at 19:00, Anna Chaikoska will present «El silencio no es oro» at San Pascual seniors’ centre, a practical guide for women experiencing gender-based violence that will also be available to buy at the event.

Theatre on 25 November and a hospital event on the 26th

The institutional declaration will be read outside the town hall on 25 November.

At 19:00 that day, Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre will stage «Esta soy yo», by Ana Belén Ríos, with free admission; the play follows a victim’s journey from the start of the relationship until she manages to leave it.

The programme will conclude on Thursday 26 November with «La violencia que no ves. Misoginia, redes sociales y explotación sexual», from 12:00 to 14:30 in Torrevieja University Hospital’s auditorium.

Elisa García, Lydia Delicado and María Jesús Navarro will speak at the event, which is open to the public and healthcare staff and will also share the healthcare response protocol for human trafficking.
