Torrevieja’s Family Meeting Point will remain in operation, according to an announcement by Socialist municipal group spokesperson Bárbara Soler, following a reversal of the reorganisation initially proposed by the Valencian regional government.
The councillor says the regional administration has confirmed in writing that it will retain every meeting point currently operating across the Valencian Community, including the service in Torrevieja.
Soler links the reversal to campaigning
The Socialist spokesperson attributes the decision to representations from affected families, trade unions, staff and professionals working in these services, together with the Alicante Bar Association.
She also highlights the involvement of Socialist municipal groups in the affected towns and the PSPV-PSOE in Valencia, identifying them among those who defended the continuation of the network.
Soler regards the retention of the service as good news for Torrevieja and argues that public demands are important when asking administrations to reverse decisions that harm local communities.
Locally, she has criticised Torrevieja’s Popular Party for declining to call publicly on the regional government to retain the facility, and says its amendment to the Socialist motion removed that request.
The spokesperson challenges the position taken by Eduardo Dolón’s municipal government during the council debate, contrasting it with the demands which she says were made by the groups involved.
Specialist support for children and families
Family Meeting Points help children and teenagers maintain contact with relatives during separation, divorce, child protection proceedings or other circumstances in which family life together has been interrupted.
The regional government’s network is a free, specialist social resource, accessed through a judicial or administrative decision, depending on whether the individual case falls within its judicial or child protection remit.
Support is temporary and seeks to safeguard children’s physical and emotional safety, providing psychological, social, educational and legal assistance delivered by appropriately trained specialist professionals.
The aim is to enable family relationships to develop with sufficient independence outside the service once the circumstances that made its use necessary have been resolved.
In Torrevieja, the regional directory lists the facility on Avenida Delfina Viudes, without a street number, at the junction with Avenida Rosa Mazón Valero.
Soler has stressed the need to retain accessible, specialist support that helps families comply with court decisions, particularly where there is a high level of family conflict.
