An Altea Local Police officer seen from behind on a motorcycle on a footbridge

Altea’s Local Police have recovered two motorcycles and returned them to their owners following action that began with a neighbour’s tip on 24 October, according to the police account reported by Altea Comboi and Ahora Marina Baixa.

The operation involved two episodes concerning the same suspect, who was arrested by the Guardia Civil on Sunday 25 October and again following a second police intervention on Saturday 31 October.

The owner had not yet reported the theft

The first alert came on Saturday 24 October, when a member of the public told the Local Police about the suspicious behaviour of a person who was with a motorcycle.

Officers organised a search and managed to locate both the individual and the vehicle that had prompted the call to the police.

At that point, no theft report had yet been recorded for the motorcycle, so finding it was not the end of the officers’ work: they contacted its rightful owner.

The owner was still unaware that the vehicle had been stolen when officers got in touch, according to the account of the police action.

Once a formal complaint had been lodged, the Guardia Civil intercepted and arrested the suspect the following day, Sunday 25 October.

A second motorcycle stolen in Benidorm

On Saturday 31 October, a week after the initial alert, Altea’s Local Police dealt with the same individual again, this time in connection with a different motorcycle.

That second vehicle had been reported stolen in Benidorm, and its recovery led to another arrest; the two interventions resulted in two motorcycles being recovered and returned to their owners.

The Local Police have highlighted the role of public cooperation in preventing and investigating possible offences and reiterated the importance of alerting the security forces to suspicious situations.

The arrests are police actions involving a suspect and do not amount to a conviction for the matters under investigation.
