Miguel Hernández University’s Altea campus is joining the blood donation marathon for the first time this Tuesday, 3 November, with a donation point in the Aula de Projectes in the Mascarat building.
The Altea session will run from 09:30 to 13:30 as part of a campaign that also visits Elche campus on Tuesday and continues in Sant Joan d’Alacant on Wednesday, 4 November.
The initiative is organised by the Valencian Community’s blood transfusion centre, Centre de Transfusió, in collaboration with the UMH Rector’s Delegation for Healthy Campuses and Sport.
Where to give blood in Altea and Elche
The main addition to this edition is Altea, where the space in the Mascarat building joins the donation points provided at the university’s other participating campuses.
In Elche, anyone interested can visit the Sala del Consejo Social on the third floor of the Rectorado y Consejo Social building between 09:30 and 14:00.
The foyer of the Altabix building will offer Tuesday’s longest opening hours, accepting blood donations from 09:30 until 21:00.
The Arenals building, also in Elche, will have two separate sessions during the day: from 09:30 to 14:00 and again from 16:00 to 21:00.
The campaign continues on Wednesday
The Sant Joan d’Alacant session takes place on 4 November in the foyer of the Francisco Javier Balmis building, with opening hours from 09:00 to 21:00.
The campaign’s slogan is «Únete a la Fábrica de la Vida», meaning join the factory of life, and it supports the Spanish Network of Health-Promoting Universities’ challenge to reach 10,000 donations.
The university puts the time needed for a blood donation at around 20 minutes.
UMH points out that Alicante province alone needs around 250 blood donations every day to care for people with different medical conditions or needs.
The minimum requirements listed in the announcement include being over 18, weighing more than 50 kilograms and not attending on an empty stomach.
The initiative forms part of the UMHSaludAble programme and is linked to the sustainable development goals on good health and wellbeing, and partnerships for the goals.
