Plans advance to expand La Mata health centre with 15 additional consulting rooms

La Mata health centre could gain 15 consulting rooms under plans to expand its building at 51 Avenida de Holanda. The step now being taken by the Valencian regional health authority (Conselleria de Sanidad) is to commission the project design, not to begin construction. The announced deadline for submitting bids is 26 October.

The distinction between these two stages is important to understanding the announcement: the current tender will allow the technical details of the proposed expansion to be drawn up. The construction works will require a separate process later, and the available information does not confirm a start date.

Separate budgets for separate stages

The tender for technical services has a starting budget of €90,446.49, including VAT, and allows two months to prepare the design. The commission covers the preliminary and detailed design, building services, health and safety studies, and the documentation needed to develop the expansion.

Separately, the preliminary proposal estimates the building works at €2,059,929.58, also including taxes. This is an estimate for the full intervention, not the value of the design contract currently being tendered. Nor does it mean that a contract for the future construction works has been awarded.

The appointed team will have to inspect the building’s actual condition and issue a technical feasibility report within the first fifteen days after the contract is signed. This assessment forms part of the preparation of the final design.

More consulting space and changes to parking

The proposed expansion would involve the centre’s three transverse wings. Two would be extended at ground-floor level to accommodate ten consulting rooms. An upper floor with another five rooms and ancillary facilities would be added to the third wing, the one closest to the main entrance.

The total floor area would increase from 1,575.62 to 2,264.36 square metres: an addition of around 690 square metres. A staircase and an accessible lift are planned to connect the two levels. The new consulting rooms and waiting areas would have external openings to provide natural light and ventilation.

The expansion would occupy part of the parking area and require the site to be reorganised. The preliminary proposal covers approximately 1,400 square metres of outdoor space and provides for 54 parking spaces to be retained. The main entrance would remain in its current location. The Torrevieja Health Department’s listing confirms that the centre is at 51 Avenida de Holanda.

What still needs to happen before construction

The preliminary proposal estimates that construction would take 18 months. That period is not a countdown starting with this tender, and it does not establish an opening date for the new facilities. The design and its approval process must first be completed, followed by the procurement of the construction works.

The 15 planned consulting rooms describe the spaces intended to be added to the building. The documentation referred to does not specify additional staffing or provide grounds for promising shorter waiting times. The announced progress therefore concerns the technical preparation of a future expansion, not the opening of additional healthcare capacity.
