Club Balonmano Mare Nostrum Torrevieja have secured their first home victory of the season, beating Balonmano Elda CEE 33–32 at the Cecilio Gallego municipal sports hall in the sixth round of men’s Primera Nacional Group E.
The result gives the Torrevieja side their first home win after defeats against Mislata and Leganés in their two previous matches as hosts at the same venue.
Mare Nostrum have now won two consecutive league matches, following their 24–26 success at Villafranca de los Caballeros in the previous round, and have four victories and two defeats from their opening six games.
A one-goal win at Cecilio Gallego
The final score against Elda leaves just one goal between the teams in the fixture that ends Mare Nostrum’s run of home defeats at their own sports hall.
Before this round, all the team’s victories had come away from Torrevieja: 27–29 against UCAM Balonmano Murcia, 21–27 against Algemesí and 24–26 against Fibritel Balonmano Villafranca.
By contrast, their first two appearances at Cecilio Gallego had ended in a 23–24 defeat against Mislata and a 23–32 loss to Jeovent BM Leganés.
From the trip to Toledo to a home victory
Their previous result was the win on 17 October in Villafranca de los Caballeros, where Aarón Álvarez’s team had maintained their perfect record away from home.
In that match, Torrevieja led 11–16 at half-time, although the home side drew level at 24–24 with only around a minute and a half remaining.
Mare Nostrum ultimately won 24–26 in Toledo province; they have now added the favourable result against Elda to their record in the opening stages of the league campaign.
Elche is the next away fixture
The next round, listed in the calendar for the weekend of 1 November, pairs Mare Nostrum with CBM Elche at the Esperanza Lag sports hall.
After that comes another home match, against BM Marni Rosval in the eighth round, corresponding to the weekend of 8 November, once again at Cecilio Gallego.
