Torrevieja’s Nozomi Judo Club has added two new black belt grades after Ángel Llerena García and Francisco Rebollo Úbeda passed their examinations on Saturday 17 October at Alicante’s sports development centre.
Ángel earned his first Dan and Francisco achieved his fourth Dan, marking two different stages of progression in the training of the Torrevieja club’s judokas.
With these results, the club counts 23 black belts achieved since its foundation in 2017, a tally it links to its sustained work on students’ technical preparation.
The club has congratulated both athletes and says several students who currently hold brown belts will shortly begin preparing to take their black belt examinations.
Fifth place for Héctor Fragkakis in Cádiz
The same Saturday also saw three young Nozomi athletes compete in the Spanish Infantil Super Cup at the Ciudad de Cádiz sports complex, an event awarding points towards the national ranking for that age category.
Héctor Fragkakis Vera finished fifth in the under-55kg category after progressing through the repechage to the bronze-medal contest, which he was unable to win.
His performance earned him his first 20 national ranking points and, according to the club’s report on the competition, placed him twelfth in the standings.
Carla Martínez García, competing at under 44kg, began with an ippon ten seconds into her opening bout, but did not get past the quarter-finals or progress further in the repechage.
Ferran Peñafiel Navasquillo completed the club’s representation in Cádiz, making his debut both in the age category and in a competition of this kind.
Next trip to Avilés
Nozomi says five members will travel next weekend to the Spanish Infantil and Cadete Super Cup at the 26th Villa de Avilés International Tournament: three in the Infantil category and two in Cadete.
According to figures supplied by the club, the Asturias event has more than 1,700 judokas registered from Spain’s autonomous communities and from Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Costa Rica.
