Orihuela has launched training for tourism businesses and services seeking to join the Integrated System for Tourism Quality in Destinations (SICTED), as the programme enters a new phase.
The municipal tourism department is running the initiative alongside the Orihuela Chamber of Commerce, whose premises are hosting this introductory training for services at the joining stage of the programme.
The sessions aim to explain the requirements participants must meet and the procedures they need to follow to progress towards joining, while introducing good practices and new tools for their work.
The activity is entitled ‘Initial training for tourism services at the joining stage’ and introduces the programme’s new working methods.
From quality commitment to responsible tourism
One change is the introduction of the ‘Compromiso de Turismo Responsable’ distinction, meaning Responsible Tourism Commitment, which replaces ‘Compromiso de Calidad Turística’, or Tourism Quality Commitment, and extends good practices to economic, social and environmental matters.
Sustainability, tourism intelligence and continuous improvement are the pillars of this phase, which aims to improve both management and the quality of the services making up the destination’s tourism offering.
The new model also encourages cooperation between businesses and public authorities to work towards balanced tourism development that takes account of the surrounding environment.
How businesses can get involved
The tourism department is encouraging establishments, businesses and professionals in the sector to take part in the programme, viewing involvement by the business community as a fundamental part of this new model.
Joining provides access to improvement tools tailored to each activity and enables participants to work on visitor care, review their service processes and exchange experiences with other professionals in the sector.
Those interested can contact the tourism department at Orihuela Town Hall to find out about the requirements and the procedure for joining SICTED.
The system has operated in Orihuela since 2012 as one of the council’s initiatives to professionalise the tourism sector, strengthen public-private cooperation and improve the services that make up the municipality’s tourism offering.
