Torrevieja held its 11th breast cancer awareness walk on Sunday 18 October, bringing participants to the seafront for an out-and-back route between the Hombre del Mar monument and Las Columnas. More than a hundred people took part despite the rain, according to the account published by local newspaper Objetivo Torrevieja.
The event was organised by the Torrevieja branch of the Asociación Alicante para la Lucha contra el Cáncer. Its own announcement confirms the date, the route and a scheduled noon start at Hombre del Mar. This was an event held yesterday, rather than a forthcoming walk or an invitation to register.
An out-and-back seafront route
Walkers gathered on Paseo Juan Aparicio before heading towards the Culturas del Mediterráneo monument, commonly known as Las Columnas, and returning to their starting point. Pink shirts and umbrellas featured prominently as the group made its way along the waterfront.
Before the walk, local association president Manoli Flores read a statement expressing support for people facing breast cancer and their families. The attendance figure and the account of proceedings come from the local newspaper’s report; they are not an independently audited count.
Residents and local associations take part
The report records the participation of municipal representatives and members of Rotary Club Torrevieja. The club contributed by donating the shirts used for the event. A charity raffle was also organised using participants’ bib numbers, and walkers were offered fruit and juice on their return.
No verified financial total for the walk is available. There is therefore no fundraising figure attached to this report, nor any attempt to estimate proceeds from the reported number of participants.
Support beyond a single event
In its programme of awareness walks, the cancer association stresses that its work continues throughout the year. It describes support for patients and relatives, alongside public awareness and prevention, as part of that ongoing activity.
The organisation’s announcement lists its Torrevieja contact point at Calle Apolo, 55, and the telephone number 865 83 36 93. Those details provide a local point of contact beyond the walk itself, without presenting Sunday’s completed event as an upcoming activity.
