Orihuela’s Health Fair opened this Thursday, 22 October, at the La Lonja auditorium, where it continues on Friday with prevention activities, information about care services and participation by associations and healthcare professionals.
Mayor Pepe Vegara and health councillor Irene Celdrán attended the opening of the event, which is organised by her department.
Vaccination and health information
According to the council, flu and COVID-19 vaccination points will be available throughout Thursday and on Friday morning, and those attending should bring their health card and follow the guidance of the healthcare staff responsible.
The stands provide information about healthy habits, disease prevention, patient care and support services.
Participants include Cruz Roja, the Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer, ONCE, Más Vida, Renacer, ADOC, AFA Miguel Hernández, ADIEM, ACECOVA, the Community Prevention Unit for Addictive Behaviours, Public Health, Vega Baja Hospital and Orihuela’s health centres.
The Health Passport encourages visitors to explore the information stands and collect stamps from participating organisations to learn about their services.
Once completed, it can be placed in a ballot box for a draw to win a hamper of gifts prepared by the health department and partner associations.
School visits include an introduction to the organisations’ work and to the equipment and operation of a SAMU ambulance staffed by a medical team.
Thursday and Friday’s events
This Thursday at 19:00, the Palliative Care Sessions will include a documentary and participation by Dr José Manuel Murcia Zaragoza, head of Internal Medicine.
The meeting will address relief of suffering and support for patients and relatives in particularly vulnerable circumstances.
On Friday, 23 October, the stands will open from 09:30 to 13:30 and a falls prevention workshop will begin at 11:00, focusing on avoiding accidents and supporting personal safety and independence.
The Orihuela Health Heroes Gala will close the programme on Friday at 19:30, recognising eight people, teams and organisations for their dedication, careers, vocation, research, community care and ability to overcome adversity.
Celdrán describes the tribute as a public expression of thanks to those who work for other people’s health, both professionally and through their experience as patients.
