The festival club Zomos los que Estamos has won the €5,000 first prize in Pilar de la Horadada’s float competition with Día de Muertos, an entry inspired by the film Coco and the Mexican tradition.

The awards recognise the creations that travelled along Calle Mayor on Saturday 24 October in a parade featuring 18 participating groups.

Rincón del Silencio took the €1,500 first prize for costumes with El Rincón se viste de costura, a presentation based on dressmaking and haberdashery.

Family memories and an illuminated float

Zomos los que Estamos, founded in 2007, brought together around 30 participants around a handcrafted float with LED lighting, an altar for Miguel and a wheelchair for Mamá Coco.

The costumes combined catrina figures, guitarists and characters from the film, with Mexican hats, face painting and songs including La Llorona and Recuérdame.

The €4,500 second prize went to Lo Explosivo, which celebrated its thirtieth anniversary with a giant birthday cake built using pallets and reclaimed timber.

Sin Límite received the €4,000 third prize for its Lion King entry, involving 45 members and featuring a large lion’s face, elephants and Pride Rock.

La Casa de la Abuela and Descontrol shared the €3,500 fourth prize with El legado de Tutankamón, while Que No Decaiga received €3,000 for La Roja: Somos campeones 2026.

Sewing, music and awards

Rincón del Silencio, founded in 1994, created costumes incorporating measuring tapes, thread spools, buttons and oversized decorative needles, alongside accessories made by hand from simple and reused materials.

The parade also featured dance schools, associations and entertainment groups, including Kalimba, GAPDAMOH and the Brasilia carnival troupe from Santiago de la Ribera.

Of the 75 festival clubs active at the fairground, five entered the float competition and one entered the costume competition; €21,500 was awarded from the €37,200 budget.

The judging panel comprised Antonio Gabriel Franco Navarro, Jesús Ros de Miguel and Francisco Piñero Ortas, professionals working in design, fantasy creations and float building.
