Torrevieja will host its 18th Science Week from 6 to 8 November 2026, organised by the Ars Creatio Cultural Association with a talk, participatory workshops and Clowntifics, a show by Big Van Ciencia.
According to the organiser, the initiative aims to bring scientific knowledge to the public and encourage girls and boys to pursue science on equal terms, challenging gender stereotypes associated with career aspirations.
Friday 6: a talk at the Casino
On Friday 6 November, at 19:00, the main hall of Torrevieja Casino will welcome Manuel Sánchez Angulo, a lecturer in Microbiology at Miguel Hernández University in Elche.
His talk, entitled “Antibiotic resistance: will we win the battle against superbugs?”, will explore bacterial resistance to antibiotics and the possibilities science offers in addressing this challenge.
Admission to this talk will be free, subject to venue capacity.
Saturday 7: workshops for ages seven and over
The Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre will host the workshops on Saturday 7 November, from 10:00 to 14:00, for participants aged seven and over, who must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Participation requires advance registration using the form accessible through the link or QR code on the event poster.
Activities include extracting plant DNA, learning about the properties of microorganisms from Torrevieja’s lagoon, tackling a scientific escape room and deciphering hidden messages.
Workshops have been prepared by staff from the universities of Alicante, Miguel Hernández and Murcia and, in a new addition, secondary school pupils from participating Torrevieja schools, including IES Mare Nostrum and IES Mediterráneo.
Awards are also being introduced for the Most Entertaining Workshop and the Most Ingenious Workshop, alongside an Audience Award.
Sunday 8: Clowntifics by invitation
On Sunday 8 November, at 11:30, the same cultural centre will present Clowntifics, aimed at people aged between 5 and 99, with the workshop awards presented before the performance.
Over approximately one hour, Orilo and Arlequina, a chemist and a geneticist respectively, will combine science communication, humour, performance and audience participation.
Admission will be by invitation, which can be collected at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre on Saturday 7 in the morning or on Sunday 8 from 10:30.
