Orihuela and Orihuela Costa provide the setting for ‘Caravana Educativa’ on La 2, Televisión Española’s second channel, at 11.20am on Saturday 24 October, in an episode exploring Ancient Egypt with history communicator Fran Lozano.
The creator of Egipteando is a guest on the programme, filmed entirely within the municipality, in which children from the Vega Baja discover history through games, activities and challenges.
From the Palmeral to Cala Capitán
The Palmeral in Orihuela and Cala Capitán are among the locations for this educational experience, combining the discovery of an ancient civilisation with views of natural and scenic places in the city and on the coast.
The programme asks how children lived in Ancient Egypt, what customs its inhabitants followed and which aspects of their culture still arouse curiosity thousands of years later.
Rather than simply listening to explanations, the children take an active role in discovering history, with the programme’s activities using play as a way to learn.
At Lozano’s request, the televised journey will end at the Casa Museo Miguel Hernández, bringing the episode to a close in a place associated with the life and legacy of the poet from Orihuela.
The communicator highlights young children’s curiosity and the many questions they ask when they encounter something unfamiliar, advocating enjoyment of discovery as a way of learning history.
A project that began in 2020
Egipteando began spontaneously in 2020 as a way for Fran Lozano to share his passion for Ancient Egypt, and now has around 100,000 followers on Instagram.
Its content explores everyday life, customs, beliefs and traditions in that civilisation through an accessible and entertaining approach that aims to maintain historical rigour.
The project addresses people of different ages, while this collaboration with TVE focuses on children from the communicator’s own local area.
Lozano regards the opportunity to take part in a national television production filmed in the Vega Baja as particularly meaningful, sharing his interest in Egyptian history with local children.
This edition of ‘Caravana Educativa’ is scheduled for Saturday morning on La 2, with Orihuela and its coast providing the backdrop to the educational adventure.
