Alberto Márquez Ruiz, from Pilar de la Horadada, won first prize in the 28th Ciudad de Torrevieja plein-air painting competition. The decision awarded him €3,000 in an edition bringing together 27 artists, seven of them local.
Second prize, worth €1,300, went to Francisco R. Antón Escolano, from Elche. Sergio Rocafort Giménez, from Torrent, received the €800 third prize. Hermes Boj Ruiz won the Local Artist Award, worth €600.
The jury comprised Dionisio Gázquez Méndez, José Gimeno Muelas and Vicente Pérez González. The presentation took place in the exhibition room at the Centro Cultural Virgen del Carmen, attended by culture councillor Antonio Quesada and municipal painting school teachers Olga Parra and Marian Martínez Cañizares.
Entrants worked in different parts of the city, drawing on the urban surroundings. Under the rules described in the report, the four prize-winning paintings will become council property and enter the municipal art collection.
The organisers announced an exhibition of selected works at the same cultural centre from 19 to 25 October. This was still a forthcoming activity when the news was published. The report does not state the exact day of the competition, so its publication date is not automatically treated as the event date.
