Maria Wilson and the Pink Ladies raised €1,580 for AACC at the breast cancer awareness event held on Saturday 17 October at Zenia Boulevard shopping centre in Orihuela Costa.

The fundraising total, reported on 24 October, includes a contribution of €500 from the shopping centre’s management, which once again gave its backing to the charity initiative and the event.

The money raised will support the work of AACC, including its early-detection programme, following a day that brought together live performances and awareness activities during International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The full programme before the rain

The organisers decided to go ahead despite a forecast of rain and thunderstorms, and the weather allowed the entire show to take place before the rain arrived at the venue.

Nik Smith of Sunshine FM hosted the event in place of Simon Moreton, introducing a programme of entertainment that opened with a performance by Gwen and her group of Zumba dancers.

The performers who followed included Lee David, Toni Ann, Alex Tipping, Georgia Baie and Valentina, as well as Mark Andrews, who took part with his tribute act to David Bowie.

The Raquel Peña dancers brought the performances to a close just before it started raining, completing the entertainment programme for the day before the change in the weather.

Thanks to performers, volunteers and donors

Maria Wilson thanked the entertainers for giving their time free of charge and acknowledged the support provided for the event by Zenia Boulevard’s management and by Sunshine Radio.

She also highlighted the contribution of the Pink Ladies, whose members continue their work throughout the year to support the fight against cancer and to raise awareness of the disease.

Her thanks extended to people from across Orihuela Costa who contributed donations, helping to achieve the fundraising result at this latest edition of the annual event at the shopping centre.
