Orihuela has put a contract worth €56,567.71, including VAT, out to tender for seven projects in Arneva, Hurchillo and Torremendo, combining sports improvements, playground repairs and new signs.
The schemes are funded through District VIII’s participatory funding programme and were drawn up in response to needs raised by residents of the three villages.
The Rural Development department, headed by Víctor Valverde, is responsible for the contract, which is at the tendering stage.
Spectator seating in Arneva and shade in Hurchillo
Arneva’s municipal sports centre is to receive a three-tier modular stand made from precast concrete, with individual seats, access steps and protective railings.
The work includes repairing the surface beneath the structure and removing roots that have lifted the paving, at a venue that currently has no properly equipped space for spectators.
In Hurchillo, the children’s playground between Barranco and Aljibes streets is to receive a microperforated fabric canopy measuring approximately eleven by twelve metres, supported by metal posts.
The play area covers around 120 square metres, and the existing trees do not provide enough shade during the hottest months of the year.
Outdoor fitness equipment and repairs in Torremendo
The recreation space opposite Nuestra Señora de Monserrate church is to gain a calisthenics circuit aimed particularly at young people, complete with equipment and the required safety space.
This area already has pétanque facilities, exercise equipment for older people and a children’s playground.
At the San Isidro recreation area, deteriorating information panels will be repaired, with replacement graphics, work on wooden structures and protective treatments.
A fallen panel will also be reinstated, with its position adapted to make the information easier for younger visitors to read.
The playground there will receive repairs to its wooden play tower, replacement of damaged parts and work on the safety surfacing.
The contract also includes three panels explaining local heritage and information panels with street maps of the built-up areas and scattered settlements of all three villages, to help residents and visitors find their way.
