A home in Pilar de la Horadada will become a charity haunted house on Saturday 31 October to raise money for the inclusive leisure programmes run by Residencia Oriol.

The event will take place from 7pm to 10pm at Avenida del Pino, number 80, in Pinar de Campoverde, with admission costing one euro per person.

The initiative comes from a family who have decided to transform their home and open it to the public for Halloween, with support from Orihuela Council’s Social Welfare Department.

Five hosts from the Protocol School

Five members of Residencia Oriol’s Protocol School will take part as hosts, wearing Halloween costumes to welcome people arriving at the house for the evening’s event.

Their duties will include greeting visitors, handing out sweets and guiding guests along the route through the haunted house prepared for the occasion.

Taking part will allow them to practise the social, communication and public-facing skills they develop through the Protocol School in a setting open to the local community.

The initiative therefore combines charitable fundraising with an active role for people with disabilities in organising an event that brings members of the community together.

“It is lovely to see how a family initiative can become a charitable activity that everyone can enjoy,” Rodríguez said in her assessment of the proposal.

Admission money will support inclusive leisure

The money collected through admission will go towards Residencia Oriol’s inclusive leisure programmes and projects, which aim to encourage social participation and offer its residents new experiences.

Social Welfare Councillor Agustina Rodríguez has highlighted that the event “goes far beyond a Halloween celebration”, drawing attention to the opportunities it offers for participation.

For the councillor, it is an opportunity for people with disabilities to take an active part, interact with their neighbours and demonstrate their abilities in an atmosphere of enjoyment and togetherness.

Rodríguez has also thanked the family for their generosity and Residencia Oriol for its involvement in an initiative linking a Halloween celebration in Pilar de la Horadada with the Orihuela centre’s projects.
