Benidorm’s Trobada de la Mare de Déu del Sofratge will have its own symphonic suite, composed by Francisco José Rovira Peretó, which audiences can hear on Friday 30 October at 21:00 in the Cultural Centre’s Auditorio Rafael Doménech.
Societat Musical La Nova will give the special concert with free admission until capacity is reached, before the music becomes part of the Hallazgo re-enactment on 7 November at Poniente beach.
The composition, entitled Arribada d’una Imatge de la Verge a Benidorm, follows an initiative by Associació Cultural i Recreativa La Barqueta, with the involvement of La Nova and the Culture Department.
Eight movements for the re-enactment
The work comprises eight movements and around 40 minutes of music, designed to accompany the different episodes of the Hallazgo story, from dawn to the appearance of the image among the ashes.
The composer has spent more than a year on a score that will replace the music used until now, which was not written specifically for this production.
Pere Maria Orts i Bosch’s theatrical text, which also gives the suite its title, underpins a re-enactment that La Barqueta has maintained for half a century.
The recording brings back the voice of the original narrator, Pepe Bayona, with improved sound for the new staging of the production.
A CD recorded at the Cultural Centre
Friday’s concert will also introduce the CD recorded last July in the same auditorium, featuring La Nova’s symphony orchestra and technical work by Audioart.
Recording took three days, in addition to the rehearsals beforehand, and the CD includes the suite and four festive pieces by La Barqueta’s Orquestra de Pulso y Púa.
La Barqueta will put the CD on sale from that day and present its plucked-string ensemble’s pieces on Saturday 31 October at 20:30 in Sant Jaume i Santa Anna church.
Poniente debut on 7 November
The new music will be combined with the voices and actors in the full re-enactment on 7 November, a separate occasion from this Friday’s presentation concert.
The initiative forms part of improvements intended to help secure Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional status; the Trobada has held the regional recognition since 2015.
