The Alicante Smartphone Film Festival will hold its fifth edition from 16 to 21 November, with screenings, workshops and professional encounters in Alicante and a short-film competition still accepting entries until 9 November.

Submissions are handled through Movibeta and Festhome for a festival devoted exclusively to films recorded on mobile phones, which has already received more than 200 shorts.

The provincial section will feature work from places including Torrevieja, Orihuela, Benidorm, Elche, Santa Pola and Daya Nueva, alongside other Alicante municipalities.

Prizes and international participation

The competition will distribute €2,000 in prizes across categories including fiction, comedy, international film, Alicante province, best actor, best actress and best direction.

The provincial section’s award includes €500 and one year of distribution for the winning short at national festivals through Movibeta.

Entries have come from countries including Spain, France, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, the United States, Italy, Costa Rica, Germany, Venezuela, Argentina, the Philippines and the Netherlands.

Workshops and cinema for new audiences

The programme opens on 16 and 17 November with an introductory mobile filmmaking workshop at Tossal Lab, covering practical techniques for creating shorts and explaining how a film shoot works.

Tuesday 17 November also brings an audiovisual activity with APSA, combining animated short films with adapted explanations of the techniques used to create them.

On Wednesday 18 November, a cinema experience is planned in the classroom at Doctor Balmis University General Hospital, where hospitalised children will use resources including green screen technology and props.

Alicante actor Luis Miguel Seguí will meet the public at the ADDA on Friday 20 November to share experiences from his professional career.

Closing gala at Teatro Arniches

The selected shorts will be screened throughout the week at Puerta Ferrisa, the ADDA and other venues within the programme.

The closing gala takes place on Saturday 21 November at Teatro Arniches, presented by Alicante actress and director Vanesa Romero with the collaboration of Luis Miguel Seguí.

The festival is directed by David Seva Morera and co-directed by Victoria Seva Mira; its programme was presented at Alicante Provincial Council alongside the provincial deputy for culture, Juan de Dios Navarro.
