Works on the waterfront promenade and the area around the former Customs House at Torrevieja port now have a planned completion date of 21 November, following a fourth extension to the construction deadline.
The contract was awarded to González Soto on 31 October 2025 for €5,055,519, including VAT.
The tender allowed five months for the works, but the company offered to shorten that timetable by six weeks, bringing the construction period down to fifteen and a half weeks.
Paving and pedestrian access still to be completed
The scheme covers the frontage of the former fishing quay, the waterfront promenade and the spaces between Muelle Mínguez, the Customs House and the new leisure centre.
It includes paving, utility networks, lighting, street furniture and improvements to accessibility and pedestrian connections along this section of the port waterfront.
The outstanding work is mainly concentrated on completing the paving in front of the former Customs House, which accommodates administrative facilities and was restored by the Paseo del Mar concession holder.
Completion will allow pedestrian access to open fully through the lower area and around the ramp leading to the shopping centre, where partial closures have been in place.
The wooden seat also remains to be fitted to the continuous steel bench in the planted area separating the leisure facilities from the new promenade.
Final acceptance of the works will also allow the children’s play area built as part of the project to open to the public.
A separate timetable for the esplanade
The waterfront contract is separate from the port’s primary and secondary electrical infrastructure contracts, which together exceed €11.1 million.
The primary electrical works were awarded to the Orthem-Abala joint venture for €3,265,085, including VAT, covering the basic electrical infrastructure and two transformer stations.
The secondary contract, awarded to Abala Infraestructuras and Orthem Servicios y Actuaciones Ambientales for €7,863,401.06, also includes paving, equipment and landscaping to complete the large esplanade.
This latter project, on land formerly occupied by the port infill and Paseo de la Libertad, has had its deadline extended to the second week of November.
The lane closest to the buildings on the former Avenida de la Libertad is outside this redevelopment and awaits a separate project; at present, it is not expected to reopen to road traffic either.
