Torrevieja’s extraordinary council meeting gave initial approval on Monday 2 November to the municipal budget for 2027, totalling €200,198,787.49 and exceeding €200 million for the first time.

The Partido Popular, VOX and Sueña Torrevieja groups supported the accounts, while the Socialist group voted against them at the meeting.

The budget balances income and expenditure and represents an increase of €12,465,867.74, or 6.64%, compared with 2026. This is initial approval rather than final adoption of the accounts.

Investment allocations for 2027

The capital investment chapter totals €47,029,655.96, up 1.81% on the previous year, covering facilities, public spaces and services across the municipality.

The largest allocations include €9.33 million for the Museum of the Sea and Salt and regeneration of its surroundings, €6.79 million for the new Alzheimer’s day centre and €5.69 million for the Playa de Los Locos promenade.

A further €3.98 million is allocated to the redevelopment of La Plasa and €3.82 million to areas next to the port. These figures are planned allocations for 2027, not the total cost of each project.

Cleaning, security and support

Staff funding for Security and Public Order rises by more than €2.1 million to €11.47 million, an increase of 22.95% in that allocation.

Current spending on waste collection, street cleaning and the maintenance of parks and gardens will amount to €8.76 million, €15.48 million and €8.16 million respectively.

Staff resources for primary social assistance increase by 19.42% to €3.98 million. Rental support for young people aged 18 to 35 continues, and €2 million is reserved for investment through participatory budgeting.

Schools and local taxation

The programme for infant, primary and special education schools exceeds €2.16 million, including €1.55 million in investment to improve facilities and playgrounds, with plans to incorporate shade provision in public schools.

IBI property tax rates remain unchanged. The budget also includes €1.02 million for the Business High Technology Centre, together with resources for sports instructors and the operation of iHub Torretech.
