Lo Pagán library will host a second night-time reading adventure on Saturday 24 October as part of San Pedro del Pinatar’s Library Day programme, following the experience held at the municipal library on Friday 16 October.

The activity turns participants into members of a secret guard with a mission: to save the library before sunrise through games, clues and challenges connected with books.

A literary treasure hunt among the shelves

The first event was organised by Va de Cuentos, an association specialising in children’s literature and reading activities, and offered children a different way to explore the library.

Participants searched the shelves, followed clues and solved riddles in a literary treasure hunt that required them to work together to complete their mission.

The experience included dinner inside the library and a final reading challenge; at the end, each child received a badge symbolically recognising them as a member of the secret guard.

That recognition was linked to their imaginary task of protecting the library’s books and stories, the narrative thread used to bring reading closer to the young participants.

A message asking for libraries to stay open

The children also worked together to write a message to the mayor, Pedro Javier Sánchez, asking him to keep the libraries open.

In their message, they described these spaces as places where people can imagine, learn, travel through stories and share experiences with others.

Culture councillor Carmen María López visited the start of the activity, which combined storytelling, games and teamwork.

The programme continues in Lo Pagán

The second event, on 24 October, will take the adventure to Lo Pagán library and give another group of young readers the opportunity to take on the challenge.

Both experiences form part of the Culture Department’s October programme to celebrate Library Day, which also includes school activities, creative workshops and literary gatherings for different age groups.
