This editorial selection suggests five areas to explore, in no order of preference and without attempting to define official neighbourhoods. If you are thinking of living in Torrevieja, its beaches, squares and parks provide specific landmarks for planning an initial visit and checking your priorities on the ground.

La Mata

La Mata beach, also known as Torrelamata, is the municipality’s longest beach, with around 2.3 kilometres of fine sand. Its coastline brings together historic and natural landmarks that invite you to look beyond the beach itself. In the northern section, highlights include the 16th-century Torre del Embarcadero, a designated cultural heritage asset, and the A. J. Cavanilles dune, associated with the restoration of dune vegetation.

If you want to explore this part of Torrevieja through its connection with the sea, start on Avenida de los Europeos. To add a dune landscape to your visit, head to the Molino del Agua Municipal Natural Area in the southern section.

Torrevieja town centre

Fountain in Plaza de la Constitución and the façade of the Church of the Immaculate Conception

Plaza de la Constitución, traditionally known as La Glorieta, is a landmark for discovering Torrevieja’s historic and administrative heart. The Town Hall and the Archpriestal Church of the Immaculate Conception stand here. The central fountain, trees and ochre-toned ceramic paving give the square its distinctive appearance.

If you are interested in surroundings shaped by the town’s heritage, use Plaza de la Constitución, 2A, as your starting point. Look at the arrangement of its buildings and meeting spaces before continuing your walk. This stop lets you assess the centre from a specific place, rather than relying on a broad label.

Los Balcones

In the Los Balcones development, Parque Reina de la Sal provides a specific starting point for exploring its outdoor spaces. It has landscaped areas, children’s play areas and sports courts, as well as a separate dog area. There are also benches and picnic tables; some elevated points offer views of the natural surroundings of the salt lakes.

If parks matter in your search, visit Avenida de la Asunción and walk through this space. Notice how its different areas are arranged in relation to the activities that interest you. The park is a useful place to take stock, although it does not represent the whole development.

Around Cura beach

Sand, promenade and buildings beside Cura beach

Cura beach forms part of the central seafront, so its surroundings naturally overlap with the town centre. Here, the focus shifts to the relationship between sand, promenade and buildings. The beach lies between Punta Margallo and the bathing areas along Paseo Juan Aparicio; it is around 375 metres long and has fine sand.

If you want to explore an urban beach setting, start on Avenida de los Marineros. Then head towards Paseo Juan Aparicio to discover this other coastal landmark. Comparing the two spaces may help you clarify what kind of seafront you would like nearby.

Around Náufragos beach

Sand, palm trees and sea at Náufragos beach

Náufragos beach lies south of the town centre. Its roughly 325-metre stretch has fine, golden sand. It offers another coastal landmark for extending your visit beyond La Mata and the central seafront, without assuming that all beach settings are interchangeable.

If you want to include this area in your search, head to Avenida Desiderio Rodríguez and observe the relationship between the beach and its immediate surroundings. Use this stop to compare your impressions with those of the other areas: your choice will depend on your priorities, not on a universal ranking.
