Altea will change vehicle access to the cemeteries in Altea and Altea la Vella for All Saints’ Day, with a special traffic operation starting at 09:00 on Friday 30 October and ending at 20:00 on Sunday 1 November.

Local Police will establish fixed checkpoints at the entrances to both cemeteries and step up surveillance across the municipality during those days.

The operation aims to organise the arrival of visitors, make journeys around the cemeteries easier and reduce risks to pedestrians on the days when the largest numbers of people are expected.

Access to Altea cemetery via Calle Alcoy

Vehicles entering Altea’s municipal cemetery must approach from Calle Alcoy, although the traffic arrangements will not be the same along the whole of the access route.

Two-way traffic will remain in place up to the junction with Camí de les Boqueres, allowing residents to reach their homes and making it easier to use the Palau car parks.

Beyond that junction, traffic will be one-way uphill towards the cemetery, so drivers will need to pay attention to the change in road signs at that point.

Vehicles approaching the cemetery from the Els Arcs area must turn right into Calle Genaro la Huerta, with an exit via Cuesta de las Narices.

Parking and the route in Altea la Vella

Recommended parking in Altea includes the car parks at Palau Altea and the Faculty of Fine Arts, the parking area opposite the cemetery and the Sant Xoxim residential development.

In Altea la Vella, a one-way route will run from Cura Llinares towards Avenida Principal de Sierra Altea; visitors can park on the open ground opposite the cemetery.

Traffic and Public Safety councillor Deo Sánchez recommends walking to the cemeteries wherever possible during the All Saints’ Day holiday.

Anyone travelling by vehicle must obey the temporary road signs and follow instructions from Local Police and Civil Protection personnel throughout the special operation.
