Altea is to add four municipal padel courts to the Joan Montiel sports complex in Altea la Vella, with investment of €285,540.70 and an expected construction period of two and a half months.

The municipal department responsible for sport has signed the setting-out record for the works, a step before construction, the councillor responsible for the area, Sara Soler, has announced.

The contract has been awarded to Vías y Obras Aitana S.L. and will expand the facilities available for playing padel within the council’s sports provision.

Synthetic turf and electronic access

The successful contractor’s proposal includes two improvements: one relating to the court enclosures and another to the playing surface, which will incorporate synthetic turf.

The four courts will also have an electronic access system managed by the municipal Sports Department, which will be responsible for overseeing entry to the facilities.

The project therefore combines construction of the playing areas with improvements to their surfaces and enclosures, alongside the system that will regulate access for users.

Six companies took part in the tendering process; the selected contractor will carry out the project at the Altea la Vella complex.

A municipal alternative for padel players

Soler linked the investment to demand from residents who play padel and currently use private courts or travel to other municipalities to take part in the sport.

“Building these four municipal padel courts will expand Altea Town Council’s sports provision and also meet demand from people who play padel,” the councillor explained.

The announcement concerns the construction phase of the future facilities: the timescale given is for carrying out the project, rather than a date when the courts will open to the public.

The new provision will be located within the municipal Joan Montiel sports facility, where the project will provide four publicly owned courts for this sport.
