Orihuela council has put out to tender accessibility and road safety improvements on Oriolanos Ausentes street and around Miguel Hernández state school, with a total budget of €59,968.63 for the proposed works.

The project addresses shortcomings in the area’s pavements, particularly beside the school, and aims to improve conditions for pedestrians making their way through this school setting.

Pedestrian routes, paving and surfacing

The contract covers the construction of pedestrian routes, paving and asphalt surfacing, as part of a scheme designed to make movement easier and improve road safety around the school.

The base budget excluding tax is €49,560.85; the figure of €59,968.63 includes VAT and represents the overall tender amount for the proposed contract.

An initial twelve-week construction period

The initial period allowed for carrying out the work is twelve weeks, starting when the site-setting-out verification report is signed, rather than from the date the tender is published.

Companies taking part may offer to reduce this period to a minimum of eight weeks, with a shorter construction timetable carrying its own score in the contract award process.

How the bids will be assessed

The contractor will be selected through an abbreviated simplified open procedure, using three award criteria that combine price, construction time and the experience of the person responsible for the work.

The financial offer will carry the greatest weight, accounting for 60% of the assessment, while a reduction in the construction period will represent a further 25% of the total score.

The remaining 15% will be allocated to the experience of the site manager or foreperson on similar projects, completing the scoring structure established to select the successful contractor.

Interested companies can submit their bids until 23:59 on 17 November 2026, using the VORTAL electronic platform for the submission of their offers.

A school that has also called for repairs

The school was in the news on 20 October over a separate issue: a group of parents had removed loose slats from the playground pergola to prevent risks during weather alerts.

Families were then reporting a lack of institutional response to defects in that structure; the current tender focuses on pavements and road safety around the school.
