Torrevieja council has begun renewing 14,886 square metres of road surface in La Mata, with work covering Perseo, Avenida de Inglaterra, Adriano, Puerto Romano and Vía Augusta.
The urban services department’s project started on Thursday 22 October and is scheduled to finish on Friday 30 October, according to the announced timetable.
Milling followed by a new asphalt surface
The first stage involves milling the existing road surface to remove its upper layer before new asphalt is laid along the streets included in the project.
Calle Perseo accounts for 6,886 square metres of the total, while Avenida de Inglaterra adds a further 4,500 square metres.
The remaining 3,500 square metres are shared between Calles Adriano, Puerto Romano and Vía Augusta.
The council’s aim is to address deterioration in the carriageway and provide a more even road surface, improving travelling conditions for residents and other road users.
Part of the northern and southern areas contract
The work forms part of the municipal contract for resurfacing, pedestrian routes and accessibility improvements, tendered with a total budget of €6,368,670 including VAT across its two lots.
The overall programme covers the renewal of 327,529 square metres of municipal streets and avenues, divided between the northern and southern areas.
The northern lot, awarded to Eiffage Infraestructuras, covers 156,256 square metres and work on up to 66 streets and avenues.
The southern lot was awarded to Pavasal Empresa Constructora and includes 171,273 square metres across up to 57 roads.
Alongside the carriageway work, the municipal project includes targeted accessibility improvements through pavement widening, dropped crossings and renewed road signs and markings.
Earlier work under the same programme
The contract has already funded work on Avenidas Tomás Boj Andreu, Desiderio Rodríguez, Doctor Gregorio Marañón and de las Gardenias, as well as in Mar Azul and Lo Ferrís.
In those two residential areas, the work comprised 22,289 square metres of resurfacing, approximately 200 linear metres of pedestrian routes and 40 accessibility improvements, with investment of €480,000.
