Orihuela Monumental Half Marathon presentation with race shirts, poster and medal

The Orihuela Monumental Half Marathon and Caja Rural Central 8K will start together on Sunday 15 November at 10am on Avenida de España, near Glorieta Gabriel Miró.

Club Tragamillas is bringing the start forward by half an hour compared with previous editions to avoid the highest temperatures during the closing stages of the races.

The half marathon reaches its 27th edition, while the 8K marks its tenth anniversary and will give every runner completing that distance a finisher’s medal for the first time.

Entries close on 12 November

Registration for both distances closes on Thursday 12 November at 11pm through the Club Tragamillas website.

Once the deadline has passed, no further entries will be accepted, either in person or on race day, according to the organisers.

Race numbers can be collected at La Lonja on Saturday 14 November from 10am to 1.30pm and 4.30pm to 8pm, or on Sunday 15 November from 8am to 9.45am.

Three laps through Orihuela’s heritage

The half marathon covers 21,095 metres over three laps of a mainly urban circuit, including a section through the Palmeral.

The route passes the Cathedral, Episcopal Palace, Santo Domingo College, Santiago church and Santas Justa y Rufina church, the five monuments featured on the poster and race shirt.

The design includes a portrait of Miguel Hernández by Orihuela painter Eva Ruiz, and all participants will receive the same shirt regardless of their chosen distance.

The half marathon offers eleven categories, from under-20s to over-70s, and €2,500 in individual and team prizes; the 8K has its own categories without cash awards.

Facilities for runners

Organisers will provide showers at Palacio del Agua and parking areas, including the upper and lower car parks at Ociopía.

The planned operation involves more than 40 local police officers, over 150 volunteers, Civil Protection, Vega Baja amateur radio operators and Red Cross medical services.
