San Javier will mark the 75th anniversary of its Local Police with historical sessions on 12 and 13 November and a display of police equipment in Almansa park.

Police councillor Alba Sánchez presented the programme on Wednesday, combining talks on the development of the security services with an opportunity to see their equipment up close.

The invitation is aimed at the general public as well as young people interested in joining the police and other security services.

Talks at the Teatro de Invierno

The opening session will begin at 18:00 on Thursday 12 November at the Teatro de Invierno, with Ignacio del Olmo, head of the National Police in the Region of Murcia.

He will discuss the history of Spanish policing before San Javier’s official chronicler, María Griñán, looks back at the history of the municipality’s Local Police.

On Friday 13 November at 09:30, at the same theatre, Francisco Pérez García, a Guardia Civil brigada in the reserve, will speak about the history and development of that force.

That Friday, from 09:00, Almansa park will host a display involving the Local Police, National Police and Guardia Civil.

The municipal services due to take part include the school liaison officer service and the dog unit, as part of an event designed to bring visitors closer to police work.

Sánchez described the sessions as an opportunity to learn about the development of local policing and of police forces across Spain.

The councillor also highlighted the value of remembering the past to better understand the direction in which the security services are heading.

Recognition and staff activities

The commemorative programme also includes a ceremony on 11 November in the town hall’s council chamber, where mayor José Miguel Luengo will present awards for notable police work and decorations to officers with 25 years of service.

The staff have also organised sporting activities, including seven-a-side football with teams from neighbouring municipalities, walking routes and indoor cycling sessions, with the aim of encouraging camaraderie and relationships within the team.
