Torrevieja has organised a participatory activity to help people recognise everyday situations involving inequality and violence against women, with a maximum of 30 places and advance registration required.
The session, entitled «¿Y tú qué ves? Historias cotidianas, realidades importantes», will take place on Monday 16 November, from 09:30 to 11:30, at the Edificio Multiusos, 8 Avenida de las Habaneras.
The Social Welfare Department, Pangea Office and Equality Unit are organising the event as part of the commemoration of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Recognising controlling behaviour and discrimination
The activity will use a practical, dynamic approach to examine everyday experiences and identify behaviour involving control, jealousy, discrimination and violence.
It will focus on behaviour that can become normalised in personal, family, social or workplace relationships, even though it undermines relationships based on respect, autonomy and treating others well.
The equality officer and Pangea’s intercultural mediator will jointly lead the session, combining a gender perspective with an intercultural approach and opportunities to share experiences.
Its objectives include reflecting on gender roles and stereotypes, encouraging equal relationships and learning to recognise warning signs of possible inequality or violence in everyday situations.
Participants will receive practical tools to help them understand how to respond when these situations affect them directly or when they notice them among people around them.
They will also learn about care and support resources available in Torrevieja, ways to seek help and how to support someone who may be experiencing violence.
Who can register
The activity is open to adult women and men who are on Torrevieja’s municipal population register, regardless of their nationality or administrative status.
Registration will remain open until all 30 places are filled and can be completed in person at the Social Welfare Department or by emailing [email protected].
The organisers have also provided an online registration form; the limited capacity is intended to encourage active participation and an exchange of views throughout the session.
Those attending will receive a certificate of participation in this awareness-raising and prevention activity.
