Weather warning map for 3 November showing yellow areas in south-eastern mainland Spain

Guardamar del Segura and the southern Alicante coast will be under a yellow rain warning on Tuesday, 3 November, with a rainfall threshold of 30 millimetres in one hour.

Spain’s state weather agency, AEMET, maintains the warning for this area from 00:00 until 23:59, meaning that the period covered extends across the whole of Tuesday.

The probability assigned to the weather event is between 40% and 70%, and the showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

A warning about intensity, not continuous rainfall

The figure of 30 millimetres refers to rainfall that could accumulate within one hour, rather than an amount forecast for each individual hour of the day.

Similarly, a warning lasting throughout the day does not mean that rain will fall without interruption or that the event must affect every location in the area equally.

The yellow level is listed as low danger in the warning table, but calls for attention, particularly for vulnerable people or those in places exposed to the weather event.

The recommendation is to keep up to date with the latest forecast and take any changes into account when planning journeys and activities in the open air.

Nearby warnings have different timings and thresholds

On the northern Alicante coast, the rain warning will start at 20:00 on Tuesday, with a threshold of 20 millimetres in one hour, and will continue into the following day.

That area will also have a warning for an accumulation of 60 millimetres in twelve hours, a figure that should not be confused with the hourly threshold for the southern coast.

In the Murcia region, Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón will have warnings for 15 millimetres in one hour and 60 millimetres in twelve hours, from 00:00 until 23:59 on Tuesday.

The warnings mentioned for those areas also carry a probability of 40% to 70%; check the warning for your destination rather than automatically applying another area’s figures or timings.
