The tenth “Corre por mí, Orihuela” charity run and walk will take place on Sunday 8 November. Club de Atletismo Tragamillas and the Orihuela cancer association decided to change the date following the weekend’s rain and storms. The event had originally been scheduled for 18 October.

In-person registration remains open. The programme retains two options, a five-kilometre run and a walk, each with a €10 registration donation towards the fight against cancer.

A new date for the charity event

The walk will start on Avenida de España and finish on Avenida de Teodomiro, beside the Glorieta Gabriel Miró. The postponement moves the event into November. Now reaching its tenth edition, it combines exercise with support for people affected by cancer.

Representatives of the council, Club Tragamillas, the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Orihuela and Caja Rural Central attended the original launch. At that presentation, health councillor Irene Celdrán highlighted ten years of shared work and encouraged residents from the town centre, outlying districts and the Vega Baja to take part.

Ten editions of sport and cooperation

Club Atletismo Tragamillas president Paco Belmonte explained at the original presentation that the club had joined the organising team for the third edition. He put the amount raised over the years for the fight against cancer at around €150,000, including the virtual edition held in 2020 because of the pandemic.

Looking back at the event’s history, Belmonte put its usual participation at between 2,500 and 2,800 people. He also recalled that the initiative had received this year’s Fortius Award for Sporting Event of the Year, recognising its track record and scale.

Conchi Martínez Bravo, president of the association in Orihuela, thanked participants, businesses and organisations for their collaboration at the launch. On its new date, the event retains both ways of taking part and its charitable purpose: running or walking to support the fight against cancer.
