Orihuela will hold a day of activities tackling violence among teenagers and cyberbullying on 5 November, with two separate sessions: theatre and discussion for pupils in the morning, followed by a talk for families and professionals in the evening.

Organised by the council’s Social Welfare Department, the initiative coincides with the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School, including Cyberbullying, and aims to provide tools for prevention and early recognition of these situations.

Theatre and discussion for secondary pupils

The programme begins at 10:00 at Orihuela’s Teatro Circo, with an activity for pupils in the third and fourth years of compulsory secondary education, or ESO, at schools across the municipality, including Orihuela Costa.

The theatrical production will be «Querido ChatGPT», written and directed by María Ortuño, which explores relationships between teenagers in the digital environment and the consequences of cyberbullying.

After the performance, there will be a participatory discussion with psychologist Alfonso Navarro, who specialises in youth psychology and family dynamics.

The discussion with pupils will cover how to identify bullying, respond to it and ask for help, paying attention to the risks associated with social media use.

An evening session for adults at 19:00

The second session takes place at 19:00 at María Moliner Municipal Library and is intended for families, teachers and education professionals.

Navarro will give the talk «La posición de los adultos frente a la violencia», focusing on warning signs, communication with teenagers and support from families and the education sector.

The two sessions therefore approach the issue from complementary perspectives: those of young people interacting in the digital environment and adults who can support them when bullying occurs.

Building on work in primary schools

Social Welfare councillor Agustina Rodríguez has presented the event as a complement to «La Buena Mochila», the programme preventing bullying and school violence that has been running in 20 local primary schools since October.

Delivered by Social Welfare Department staff, that initiative is expected to reach around 1,200 primary pupils; the 5 November event brings teenage pupils and the adults around them into this preventive work.
