Zenia Boulevard in Orihuela Costa has cancelled Halloween activities scheduled during the days of national mourning out of respect for the victims and their families, according to a notice published by the shopping centre.

The decision, reported by The Leader on 30 October, affects special celebrations that had been scheduled within the three-day period of mourning announced across the country.

In its statement, the centre says it is taking the step out of respect for those affected by recent events in Spain and expresses its support and solidarity with them.

The announcement changes the festive programme previously publicised for the final week of October, which brought together children’s activities, a tunnel of terror and a fancy-dress competition for visitors.

The earlier programme included two afternoons of Hotel Inferno

Before the cancellation, the Hotel Inferno tunnel of terror was listed for Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, from 17:00 to 21:00 on both of those afternoons.

The attraction was designed as a horror hotel with surprises in its corridors and rooms and was recommended for ages eight and over; younger children were required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

The advertised entry was free and linked to Zenia Kids Club membership, with visitors able to sign up on site without charge before going into the attraction.

A family programme advertised for 24–31 October

The original programme covered 24–31 October and included Juan Sin Miedo, a storytelling show with actors, puppets and audience participation, alongside a children’s workshop for decorating fabric bags.

A fancy-dress competition had also been announced for 31 October at 19:00 in the Plaza Mayor, with three €25 gift cards for the spookiest, most original and best handmade costume categories.

The cancellation announced by Zenia Boulevard applies to activities scheduled during national mourning; the dates and conditions of the earlier programme describe what had been advertised before this decision was taken.
