Orihuela will host a talk on sculptor José Seiquer Zanón on Tuesday 27 October, with Julio Calvet Botella speaking as part of the series ‘La impronta del arte en Orihuela: escultura, pintura y cartelería’.
The lecture, entitled ‘Un escultor: José Seiquer Zanón’, will begin at 19:00 in the Fernando de Loazes Public Library, which is located in Plaza de Ramón Sijé.
Admission will be free, subject to the room’s capacity, as it is for the other lectures taking place as part of this cultural programme in the city.
Artists connected with Orihuela’s heritage
The University of Alicante’s Orihuela centre and its Cátedra Arzobispo Loazes are behind the initiative, which introduces the public to the careers and work of artists who have left their mark on the city.
The programme focuses on their contribution to Orihuela’s heritage, including artists who were not born in the city but whose work connects them with its artistic history.
Antonio Luis Galiano Pérez, Orihuela’s official chronicler, coordinates the series, while Maribel Peñalver Vicea, director of the university’s Orihuela centre, is responsible for introducing it.
The sessions bring together the perspectives of specialists, including chroniclers, judges and intellectuals, to explore the local legacy of sculpture, painting and poster art through the artists associated with it.
Four Tuesdays of talks at the library
The series began on 20 October with Galiano Pérez’s lecture ‘El pintor Eduardo Vicente: Orihuela, sus amigos y sus obras’, examining the Madrid-born painter’s personal and artistic connections with the town.
After Julio Calvet’s appearance, the programme will continue on 3 November with María Ángeles Vidal Guevara and her lecture ‘El cartel de fiestas. Historia y singularidades’, on the history and distinctive features of festival posters.
The closing session is scheduled for 10 November with ‘El escultor e imaginero Ramón Cuenca Santo. Su obra en el mundo’, featuring the artist himself and his work as a sculptor and maker of religious images.
The programme therefore spans four consecutive Tuesdays in October and November, with the Fernando de Loazes Library providing a shared venue for sessions devoted to these different expressions of artistic heritage.
